Learning Methods
| Those participating will learn mainly through screen based study - that is, using a PC connected to the internet and the training programme web site. The learning will be supplemented by support from project staff, as well as from 'virtual' networking with other participants. We also may consider holding physical networking events and other forms of traditional classroom based training to supplement the main training. |
 |
The web or screen based training will require the participant to read though text on screens, carry out screen based exercises and assessments, search the internet to visit web sites with more detailed information on specific topics. There will also be practical exercises whereby the participant will undertake a task, project or exercise on the 'shop floor' . The content will be interactive and be 'media rich' rich - that is, containing video clips, images and graphics.
Participants will need to decide how they spend time studying (probably in consultation with their company management). This could involve study in the workplace or at home, the latter depending on whether they have a suitable IT setup. It is likely that different people will have different ways of learning, depending on their particular circumstances, learning styles, etc. |
The use of the wider internet will be particularly important in studying. It is the view of project staff that there is a substantial information resource already available on the internet, of web sites that hold high quality information of business improvement techniques. The eLean training programme aims to leverage these resources (rather than simply duplicate them on the eLean site) and use them as valuable inputs to learning. In this way, participants will become proficient at searching the web and learning from a wide network of websites.
Participants undertaking modues will be assessed in a variety of ways. These include multiple choice tests (within the body of the course material) and occasionally submitted project work. The latter is particularly importand if the participant wishes to receive a certificate having completed the module or course. During the pilot it is intended to utilise LERC's Lean Competency System so that those completing modules will receive a 'certificate of lean competency'. Click here to find out more. |
